Week of February 24th

Dear Kinder-Parent,
We will kick off this morning with Mrs. Billups’ annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Breakfast! Tomorrow, please be sure to bring children to school at 7:45 a.m., as we will head to the church for Ash Wednesday 8 a.m. mass.
I want you all to know that I received several compliments on the behavior of your children last week during the many observations our WASC committee made. I was very proud of the students and their dedication to participate and be good listeners. It only validated how truly fantastic your Kindergartners are.
This week in curriculum, we will be continuing to learn to graph and we will be introduced to short o words (i.e. hop, dog, sock). Encourage your student to spell out loud simple 3 letter short o words. Our spelling words are mop, map, have and up. On Friday, we will conclude our week with an introduction to addition.
Our Show and Tell presenters on Friday will be Abby, Tino Seth and Brenda. Please remember to practice addresses at home; There will be a test on Friday, March 6th.
Have a wonderful week!

Love,
Mrs. McGee

Week of February 16th

Dear Kinder-Parent,
I cannot begin to thank you all enough for making my birthday last week so special. Not only will I forever treasure the fabulous purse and key ring you gave me, but the kind words compiled by the Kindergartners melted my heart. I feel so blessed to be with your children every day, and this was so special to me. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
We have no school on Friday, so homework will be due on Thursday this week. We will be learning about the letter L and continuing to practice tally marks. Students are beginning to make and read graphs. We will discuss Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, Dental Health Month and George Washington.
We will take a spelling test on Thursday. Our spelling words are one, go, blue and fan. Our new popcorn words are “one” and “what.”
There will be no Show and Tell this week. Have a beautiful four-day weekend!

Love,
Mrs. McGee

Week of February 9th

Dear Kinder-Parent,
This Friday, Kindergarten will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. Kinders may distribute valentines to the class, but please be sure NOT to write any names on them. They may write whom they are from, but please do not include who they are to. This will save us a lot of time distributing them!
This week in curriculum, we will be introduced to tally marks and graphs. Our letter of the week is D, and we will continue to learn about Abe Lincoln. We will discuss Thomas Edison, as well as celebrate the 100th day of school! We will attend mass on Wednesday and Friday we will conclude our week with Gateway to Art.
Your children have been so generous with Pennies for Patients. Our room alone has raised $100! I am so touched by their devotion to give.
Students are running very low on glue sticks. I ran out of my supply as well! If possible, please purchase your child a new glue stick.
Kindergarten will need to start learning their addresses. They will be tested on March 6th. Please begin practicing with them now.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love,
Mrs. McGee

Week of February 2nd

Dear Kinder-Parents,
Happy Groundhog Day! Today, the students will review their predictions made last Friday to see if Spring will arrive early. We will also be exploring shadows and learning what creates them, as well as matching the shadow with the correct object. Today we will be discussing animals that burrow in honor of Groundhog Day!
I am so proud of the incredible job Kindergarten did with the Martin Luther King Jr. presentation on Friday. They are wonderful performers and their hard work and dedication brought tears to my eyes!
February is an incredible month for learning. In February we celebrate National Dental Health Month, Valentines Day, Presidents Day, the 100th Day of School, and so much more! This week, we kick of February with the letter C and beginning to explore graphs and fractions. Our new popcorn words are “get” and “where.” On Wednesday, we will take a math test that concludes our chapter on number concepts.
We are also continuing our unit on community. This week, we will meet a police officer and a doctor! Our Show and Tell presenters on Friday will be Kailei, Giovanni, Ravan and Madison.
Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. McGee

Week of January 20th

Dear Kinder-Parent,
Today is a very special day! Not only will we be celebrating the inauguration at mass, but students will be able to watch clips in class as well. I am looking forward to discussing this historical event with your children.
Rather than a homework packet, this week students will have a project. I have sent a folded strip of construction paper. Students are to write numbers 1-4 in the space provided in each box ( 1 number per box). They must glue on any household items to represent that number in each box. For example, in the 3 box, they may glue 3 bottle caps. Students may use any objects that will adhere with ease (i.e. macaroni shells, foam pieces, etc.) This project is due Friday. Also, encourage your child to rehearse his/her line everyday for our M.L.K presentation on January 30th.
We will be learning about words that have the short I sound (pig, kid, pin, etc.) Our spelling words this week are pig, big, pan and tin. Our new popcorn words are “up” and “a.” Your child must practice writing spelling words at home. We are also beginning a very exciting unit about penguins and the Artic! As we continue learning about community, we are going to have a coach deliver a presentation on Thursday.
Show and Tell presenters on Friday are Eki, Chloe Dylan and Kaila.
Have a wonderful week!

Love,
Mrs. McGee

Week of January 12th

Dear Kinder-Parent,
As we move toward the end of the month, I will be taking time to assess each child one-on-one. Please take time to review with your child the skills I have listed in the packet. I am very excited to closely examine all of the progress we have made!
This week, we will begin to learn about our community. If there are any parents who would like to come in and give a presentation about their career, please notify me as soon as possible so that we can schedule a time. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to discover important jobs in our community.
Our curriculum will consist of number concepts, letter G, and more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students will be presenting a mini-skit on January 30th for the entire school! Please mark your calendars for 8 a.m., as we would love for you to be a part of our audience. We will also continue exploring animals and their preparation for winter. We will conclude our week with Gateway to Art on Friday.
Our Show and Tell presenters this week are Dominic, Ariyanna, Alex and Samara. Please pack them a special object in their backpacks on Friday.
Have a wonderful week!

Love,
Mrs. McGee

Week of December 8th

Dear Kinder-Parent,
I am very much looking forward to our Giving Party on Friday! If you have not signed up to bring something, I will be assigning items on Wednesday. I ask that each Kindergartner comes with a book (kinder appropriate) to wrap and donate to Our Lady of Victory School. Please contact me if you are unable to participate.
We will be attending school mass today. Our letter of the week is P, and we are beginning a math chapter that explores number concepts. We will be reading many stories about pigs, as well as creating a “Christmas and My Senses” book.
Spelling words for the week are: pat, sat and go. Please practice writing these words at home.
Also, please ensure that your child is coloring whenever possible on the homework packets. Even if the directions do not call for coloring, it is great practice for developing our fine-motor skills and artistic abilities!
Have a wonderful week!

Love,
Mrs. McGee
